What role for EUSALP in future?

European Week of Regions and Cities 2017 (Workshop 11 B56)

Where: Representation of the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino
            rue de Pascale 45 – 1040 Brussels
When: Brussels, 11 October 2017

The EUSALP strategy was officially launched in Brdo at the end of January 2016. All nine action groups have started their work and some of them have already delivered first remarkable results. This EWRC event - divided in two parts - involves high-ranking panelists who will analyze in general terms what will be the future role of the strategy and what has been delivered so far from the point of view of Regions, Cities, and citizens. The event has been organized by the consortium “EUSALP – Shaping the future of the Alpine Region” composed by 13 partners: Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino-Aosta Valley-Auvergne/Rhône-Alpes-Bavaria-Carinthia-Friuli Venezia Giulia-Lombardy-Piedmont-Salzburg-Slovenia-Vorarlberg.

The two debates will analyze the following questions:

  • Why can Regions and Cities be more efficient change agents when shaping the future of the Alpine Region thanks to the EUSALP strategy? This macro region will be facing important challenges in the coming future: climate change, economic developments, the need to assure jobs and education above all to the younger generation, mobility issues, need to enhance the use of renewable energies and to invest more in innovation. What will “post 2020” bring for the Alpine macro region? How can Regions and Cities take concrete action as change agents thanks to the multilevel governance approach?
  • The second debate will analyze more in detail what has been delivered so far that may change the citizens’ life in the various fields EUSALP is focusing on e.g. bio economy, dual and vocational education (vet), mobility, renewable energies. High-level speakers will have an exchange on those issues considering what has been delivered so far under the Slovenian and Bavarian Presidencies and what is foreseen under the upcoming Tyrolean Presidency starting in 2018.
